Malakoff were appointed by One Peterson to carry out the blasting and painting of pipework and valves on the Greenhead base, Lerwick.
In addition to other works (replacement of valves, fabrication and installation of spools and fabrication and installation of pipework supports), this involved the mobilization of our vapour blasting equipment and well trained, experienced operators to site, to carry out in-situ blasting and painting.
Due to the requirement for pipework preparation in-situ, the Graco Ecoquip 2 vapour blasting unit was proposed. This innovative technology can blast at pressure ranging from 30-175 PSI and generates 92% less airborne dust than dry blasting. This results in a much cleaner and safer operation, especially for situations where work must be carried out onsite.
A full surface coating quality pack was produced for the client.

Collection of samples for lead analysis
Removal of perished areas of pipe wrapping (with underlying corrosion), any remaining wrapping was made good.
All pipework was pressure washed and rinsed with fresh water.
All corroded areas were Vapour blasted.
All non-corroded areas of pipework were hand abraded to achieve a light key.
All blasted areas received 2 coats of International Intershield 300.
All pipework to received 2 coats of International Interthane 990.
