Summer 14 & 15
Sullom Voe
Malakoff Limited were awarded the contract to remove/demolish and fabricate/install all 4 fenders on both Jetty 2 (summer 2015) and Jetty 3 (Summer 2014) of the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal. The existing fenders were lowered subsea utilising custom designed and in-house fabricated temporary steelwork, these were recovered by heavy lift crane barge following the installation of the new Cone and front panel fenders.
Installation included in-house fabrication and onsite welding to the composite panel for the Jetty 3 Fenders, concrete works to fill composite panels, Surface coating to required marine specification, quayside assembly of the units and rigging for installation.
A full QA package to BS En 1090/ BS 3834 was required. A significant challenge encountered particularly on Jetty 3 was that at approximately 58t fully assembled weight ensuring the rigging was maneuverable enough to enable each unit to be lifted into precise position at the face of the berthing Dolphin with only 25mm tolerance.
Project Deadlines were also rigid with severe financial penalties due to the hire of a 400t capacity crane barge and a narrow margin of availability for the installation works
