Introduction

Malakoff were appointed by Petrofac to carry out industrial cleaning of the Shetland Gas Plant MEG Tanks.  The tanks were over 18m in height and were visually showing signs of rust runs and corrosion.

Malakoff were tasked with determining a suitable product and work procedure to resolve this problem.  Chemical and pressure washing of marine vessels is everyday work at Malakoff, so we were able to provide fully trained and experienced operatives with work at height and COSHH training in the specific products to be used (Super Limate and Kemi-lux S1 Plus).

Process & Feedback

Working within the site ISSOW Malakoff were able to advise on all aspects of the works from health and safety to environmental controls and suitable disposal provide a complete solution. There was a need for these works to be completed to a tight timescale, so two teams were provided back to back, day and night, allowing for a 24hr round the clock operation.

Customer Feedback:

“Two inspections undertaken with Malakoff on shift during Work at Height activities on MEG Tank C. Very good compliance during jet washing both on the roof of the tank and during MEWP use to jet wash the side of the tank. PTW in place for the activity with no issues identified & good POWRA completed for the activity. Barriers in place, trained standby man in place at grade level during MEWP use & key in place to alternate controls in an emergency situation. Good positive attitude displayed by personnel who demonstrated good knowledge of emergency & W@H procedures.”
